Who is this course for?
This programme has been designed for children aged 3-11 years old, who struggle to regulate their feelings and is available for parent, carers and professionals.
Maybe they get frustrated or angry easily and are often misunderstood. Do they find it difficult to share their feelings and seemingly go from 0-10 for no apparent reason? Then find it difficult to come back down again? Perhaps you find that they manage to keep their feelings in check at school all day and meltdown as soon as get home. They may be very sensitive and become easily emotionally overwhelmed or withdrawn, making it difficult to know what's really going on inside?
Through this 6 week programme your children will be equipped with a wide range of colourful resources, activities and games to become Feelings Detective®. You will also gain the knowledge, understanding and strategies you need, to be their Emotional Coach. It's all about having fun, learning and growing together through play.
Course Details
Our program consists of 6 unique phases:
Week one: Identifying and labelling feelings. Thinking about what feelings look like in terms of facial expressions, body language and behaviours. Getting to know the clues to our feelings and the feelings of others.
Week two: Putting feelings into context, thinking about why our feelings may have come to the surface. There are no good or bad feelings, but some thoughts, feelings and behaviours can be helpful or unhelpful. Through this session we explore some techniques that will support us to feel more in control and make healthy choices going forward.
Week three: Introducing mindfulness and learning all about feeling good on the inside. Starting to build intrinsic motivation and the understanding that when we feel good on the inside, it shines on the outside.
Week four: Exploring our internal Feelings Volcano, building emotional self-regulation and impulse control. Getting to know what it looks like when we are grounded and feeling good on the inside. Learning how we know that we are starting to bubble and what happens when our volcano has erupted. We then think about things that we can do to spot and pop the bubbles so that we avoid erupting and go back to feeling grounded again.
Week five: How we can look after our feelings and the feelings of others. This is about looking after our emotional cup and being a bucket filler to fill the cups of other. Through this session we explore social skills, prosocial behaviours, kindness and how we can communicate our thoughts, feelings, wants, needs and wishes, particularly during times of conflict, effectively.
Week six: The importance of sharing our superpowers and shining our light. This session is all about bringing the learning together and realising that our feelings are just as individual as we are. Celebrating everything that we have learnt and all that we are.
